H.E. Shacklock Orion — Heritage Cast Iron Restoration
An H.E. Shacklock Ltd Orion No.1 cast iron coal range — a genuine New Zealand heritage piece — restored using laser ablation followed by high-temperature paint. Decades of heavy surface rust had almost completely obscured the original foundry details: the ornate arch panels, grate bars, and the iconic ‘H.E. SHACKLOCK LTD — ORION’ casting. Laser ablation stripped the rust back to bare metal, revealing every detail intact. High-temperature paint was then applied to the prepared surface, producing the finished result shown. The brass tap was left untouched throughout.
Why Laser?
- —Chemical-free rust removal safe on porous antique cast iron
- —Abrasive-free — no risk of damaging ornate foundry casting detail
- —Removes decades of rust without touching brass fittings
- —Reveals original lettering and decorative panels ready for coating
- —Laser-prepared surface provides ideal adhesion for high-temperature paint
- —Safe on collectable and heritage pieces of any age
Note: final finish shown is high-temperature paint applied post-laser preparation.
